Old thread is kill, this is the new Radio Ernstiwan thread. In case you're new: The best stream is The Weekly Album stream, the others can be ignored.

Share your musical taste and your seductive voice (no homo) with your fellow Ernsts, and help making this chan not only enojoyable for the eyes and mind, but also for the ears. As always, there are no restrictions whatsoever in what to stream. Just share what you like, every streamer has his own ideas and style, and it only makes the radio more interesting.

The radio is available here: http://radio.ernstchan.xyz:8000/

There's also a chat and a discord where you usually find people talking about gay porn and penguins during the streams.

https://discord.gg/UpXdrxG
http://ernst.bplaced.net/chat/blabax.php (You can register with an email or make a guest account which will tie your name to your IP. If you have a changing IP and want to keep your name register with email)

Connection data for the public stream: see pic 3. See also the beautifully crafted pic 2 and the infos on the radio page itself for additional details. Don't hesitate to ask if there's anything on your mind, there are lots of people around who have working streaming setups running and will be glad to help you out. You can see at the top of EC (below the banner) if a stream is on.

Happy listening/streaming!

I just implemented a new method for Discord notification of new streams. Since the current Bot sucks balls I implemented a webhook which is called from the existing statistics module when a new stream goes live. Since the stats module is called every 5 mins the maximum notification delay should be 5 mins now - if it works. Guess we'll find out during the next stream. I leave the old bot online until I'm convinced that the new mechanism is better than the current one :DD

Feed creation itself remains unchanged, so if you have an external reader for the radio feed then you don't need to change anything.

I have two questions concerning the radio:

  • The calendar on the radio page is almost not used. I'd like to remove it from the page, since in it's current state it only adds confusion.

  • I have been asked several times about the implementation of countryballs for the current radio listeners. I'm not sure if I can do it, but for now let's assume that it's possible: I worry that especially international listeners might be identifiable via their countryball, because from some countries there are very few potential listeners. Also it might lead to the technical requirement of caching (and thus storing) IP data, because all geolocation services I saw have a transaction limit per month. But we just went considerable lenghts to not do that for privacy issues, for example while implementing the album rating module.

I'd like to hear your opinions about these things.
>>
No. 55297
>>55295
I have no strong feelings one way or another about the calender, since most streams are either spontaneous or announced in this thread. If you decide to axe it, just be sure the next OP continues to pimp the Weekly Album stream :D.

Re: adding countryballs, I share your concern about identifying some /int/ listeners. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing to be identified as a listener, but I wouldn't want it to become a spotlight on someone who wanted to drop into a stream. Caching IP's, though, would certainly kick up a storm. Let's not even start that discussion again. So, unless there is a compelling reason to add the balls, I'd avoid it.

FYI: Most people don't seem to have strong opinions about those topics, and the voiced opinions go roughly in the same direction. I implemented an alpha version of our latest radio gimmick: A history of the last played songs. It works like this: Since we had a cronjob running for the statistics module anyway this cronjob now also checks for the current artist/title. If the entry has changed for the currently analyzed stream the info will be written to database including a timestamp and the associated stream.

Of course the client has to provide these information. Also: The cronjob now runs every 2 minutes instead every 5 minutes like before. That means that measurements of listener numbers will be more frequent. Pitfall: Songs which are shorter than 2 minutes and are played in the interval between two cron runs will be left out. It would be possible to poll the info more often, but I don't want to generate too much data.

I'll put some lipstick on the display soon, for example I plan to show the streamer name instead of the useless stream number. Don't know how long the data should be stored, I don't think there's a need to keep it for a long period of time. The display is limited to 100 entries for now, but that's completely arbitrary, let's see if it's sensible. The red part in the image is old data which I generated manually while testing, so it's not representative. The green stuff and everything which will come after is the real deal.

Some of the Radio-involved folks already know, but I wanted to issue an official statement before rumours spread: Radio Ernstiwan was asked if we are available to help out as a second stream for the upcoming cabbage radio stream festival, since one of their two radios died recently, and they would like to have two parallel streams. We agreed and asked them not to play any nazi music on our radio, since it's Ernst here, and nazi music was (as far as I know) the reason RfK pulled the plug in first place, and one dead radio is plenty. They were OK with it, so we're good to go.

For us this is a good opportunity to listen to some new streamers, and I'm glad to help out anyway, since quality and effort should be supported, and we radio people should stand together in times of need. So don't be surprised if there are some test streams by new streamers in the next days/weeks. I don't have any details about the date, schedule or streamers yet, I'll let you know as soon as I know the details.

Now I know that there are a few guys on /int/ who get rabies by the mere mention of the cabbage. If you consider yourself a strict no-cabbage hardliner: The majority of their radio people are already known to us through various ties our own streamers (a lot of them have RfK-history) have kept alive, and I also know some of their guys through their work, and we all strongly agreed that those guys are decent folks and that we want to help out. So please give their radio guys a chance, for they aren't to blame for the problems of their chan, and they also have some very skilled streamers available!

FYI: I just enabled the radio HTML inline player for mp3-based streams. Until now that was only available for ogg vorbis-streams, but I noticed that this can be changed with a small change in the Icecast presentation logic. The reason why Icecast initially doesn't allow this is that mp3 isn't officially supported. For now I can say that it works fine with Chrome, no idea about other browsers, so please report any issues you find with mp3 streams. You can see if a stream is mp3 by looking at the red marked box in the screenshot, which shoud either say audio/mpeg (mp3) or application/ogg (ogg vorbis).

Public service announcement: Radio was offline from about 15:20 to 16:10GMT due to an unsual high amount of connections from a single IP address. Not sure if malfunctioning client or some kind of DoS attack. For now the IP in question is blocked for incoming connections on operating system level. shit, I am so sorry.
I wanted to record the weekly album pre-stream, coz I couldn't attend
but instead of using a program like a normal person, I decided to turn it into programming practice, and write a small script that connects to radio and writes the stram to disk

problem is, there's a terrible bug where instead of checking for an open stream every now and then to reconnect, it just keeps opening new connections without cleaning up the old ones

again, my deepest apologies, I didn't meant to ddos the radio

Did you know that there's only one aussie on this whole board, and he doesn't even post much any more, as well as not participating in the radio? I know because we're constantly in contact, and have known each other since before EC/int/ was made to accommodate Krautchan refugees after it was taken down.

Ok, I do not want to make any direct accusations, but I will share my suspicions.
I think you are sorta accusing me of DDOSing the radio stream because I was "butthurt" at someone from the radio group for being a bit passive aggressive (or at least it came off that way). Yeah, I was being a bit of a dick, but I apologized because I wanted to be the bigger man.
But now you're here escalating the situation again, and doing so from behind a proxy.

Don't think it's him. While your posts don't reveal your location, the stream which started that back and forth was made with your radio account- which does. Given that info, it follows that he already knows where you're from and wouldn't come back later to ask.
Conclusion: Different guy.

Also, we do have another aussie who passes through now and then. Likes to travel, moves around a lot. Think he was in New Zealand at one point.

Another year has passed, and our little family radio is steadily growing up: On September the 3rd Radio Ernstiwan will turn 2 years old. Obviously, this calls for a celebration in form of a streaming festival. Since September 3rd is a friday, we can choose whether we want to start on Friday or if we want to stream on saturday/sinday like the last time (see pic 2). I suggest we collect the possible contributions along with their preferred timeslot, and then we see how a possible schedule could look like, and how many hours we can fill.

Like last year I'll make a show somewhere around the beginning of the festival with a review of the past year, some random autism and music I stole from better streamers. For your planned contributions: You don't need to specify exactly when you want to do, for now it's enough to give a rough description about when and how long you'd like to stream, and if you need to change it afterwards we will find a way, so don't worry. I'll take care of the schedule.

I also count on /int/ to make a better promo picture than the shit I poorly slapped together in pic 1 earlier this day.

Thanks for the contributions. Based on the current announced streams I created a alpha version of the schedule. I suggest taking Prostmusik and the Weekly Stream as fixtures, because it's their regular time anyways, and then build the rest of the schedule around those two. For now I didn't include sunday, but this of course might change if there will be more announcements. As already mentioned: It's not necessary to specity the details of your stream, I only need a rough idea about when and how long people are willing to participate. The schedule is likely to change a few times anyways, so don't worry.

Update for the festival schedule: Kosmonauten have been confirmed - somewhat, so sunday became a realistic option. I'd say we need at least two more streams (better 3 or more) to make sunday happen. I'd provide an optional stream in that case with some songs made by Ernst on /b/ (mostly in german though). If there are no more stream announcements we should pack everything into friday and saturday, though that would mean that we're already pretty stuffed.

So let's hear those announcements, guys! We need MOAR!

Big update for the schedule, 2 new streams have been confirmed, sunday is safe now! Also nice to see that 3 of the streamers from the cabbage festival are participating, new streamers with new inputs are always a great thing! There's space for 1-2 additional streams. If we get more than that we'd have to juggle a little, but it wouldn't be a problem since some streamers had announced flexible runtimes just in case, so there will be space for everyone!

The green streams are more or less fixed, while the yellow ones might be moved around, the schedule is basically only a visualization how things COULD be. If anyone wishes to change his current spot just let me know. Also there is a disturbing lack of stoner doom streams, I blame the rectangular one for this!

Here the current schedule (beware, all times UTC+2), not many changes since the last time. On sunday I moved everything on hour in the evening, because it makes more sense to start a little later I think. The schedule can stay this way if there are no more announcements, but if there are there are 3 sports that can easily be freed (again, all times UTC+2):

  1. friday 19:00-21:00, in this case I#ll shorten mine to 1h (please let it happen :DD) and chvk starts an hour later
  2. friday after midnight, in this case chvk offered that he can shorten his stream
  3. sunday afternoon/evening, in this case we'd ask the current spotholders are willing to move their streams back in time if necessary
I don't really want to schedule anything past midnight on sunday (monday morning) because I fear that after 3 days of radio people might be getting tired of it. Of course if anyone wants to continue he can still do that.

In case anyone was wondering: There will be no server-side recordings of the streams. I'll try recording as much as possible while listening, but if anybody can pull off automatic recordings of the festival streams: Go ahead! If you want to you can also record your own stream so that we can collect them at the end for a compilation, but of course that's not mandatory. But I at least wanted to address that point because there were people asking about records after the first birthday festival and during the cabbage festival, so I at least want to try to collect as much as possible.

Party over, and boy, what a party it was! For 3 days straight the radio and the discord were glowing! Even to say that the expectations were exceeded would be a colossal understatement. I don't even know where to start: Every single stream reached double figures in listeners, listeners full of praise, lots of new streamers, great music and great call-in shows with lots of assburgerism, huge diversity in genres, streams almost around the clock, Funpaku on Radio Ernstiwan, 20 listeners for Kosmonauten (statistics module shows only 19 :DD) - this list could be extended even further.

One week has passed since the birthday festival: Time to recollect and write down the ideas created during that time.

  • For the next festival I'd put the streaming plan on the radio page, since posting 3 times on /int/, /b/ and discord, where you have to search for them in the thread is not optimal
  • There was an idea about an Ernst audio play
  • Chatmin asket if we wanted to replace the radio chat with a discord widget. I had a look at this and so far could only find an easy integration that shows who is online on discord, but does not allow chat. I have to do more research what can be done here.
  • There will like be a Brick & Iwan Coop show in the near future
  • As much fun as discord is: It directs traffic away from the board. For bystanders who don't know our discord this must look sad: The streaming festival is on, and the radio threads are only sparsely populated. Maybe we should think about another way of handling this. An idea was to ask Ernstadmin to create a new (maybe temporary) radio board.
  • Since Ernstalbum was well received and the /int/ folks showed interest there may be a possibility for Ernstalbum v2, this time with international focus

Please add anything I forgot or any new ideas you have. I'm also interested in opinions about the above bullet points, especially about the whole discord/chat/new board-issue.

Tonight at 20:00 CEST we will try to answer the question what kind of bands could (would?) play a gig in Silent Hill (Otherside).
For that I chose Outre' by australian experimental death metal band Portal and Things Viral by american drone/doom supergroup Khanate, which a female acquaintance of mine, upon hearing it in my car, once called scary and creepy.

Before the first album we'll have some 10 minutes of lord worshipping praise music.

Since we recently noticed that it would be nice to have a function for announcing upcoming streams which would also integrate into EC I patched something together. It's fresh from the Ernstiwan coding labs and in alpha stadium, so funny things could happen. There's a new menu point "Calendar", here you can login with your radio account and announce a stream. The time zone is UTC, I think that is the most friendly solution for users from different time zones. This page also shows all streams that have been announced by you, includig a delete-button for each one. There's no edit-button though, that seemed much workenings for those few inputs needed.

On the statistics page the next 3 upcoming streams (smallest start date which is still larger than the current time) are shown. I shitposted there so that there is some content. This shows 2 starting times: A germoid one and a UTC one. Maybe we don't even need the end time, not sure yet. What do you think: Should the end time be included or not?

In the next phase I would ask Ernstadmin if we can integrate the next upcoming stream on EC, just like live streams are shown. I'd create a json file with the necessary infos. To prevent misunderstandings: It's just for marketing purposes, it doesn't do anything technically, like blocking resources or whatever.

I inserted a duration field now instead of the end timestamp because I didn't want to have 4 timestamps in a single row. Also there's some basic input validation happening now, like for example you can't submit an end time which is smaller than the start time, and the description will cut off at 255 (old school) chars.
