Todays winner is "Warren G - Regulate... G Funk Era".

New to the poll:

Jan Hammer Group - Oh, Yeah?
Great Album. Jan Hammer is a really interesting musician that produces mostly Jazz Fusion but often strays so far away from it that you might think you're listening to classical album at times. His best known work is probably the Miami Vice soundtrack which has little to do with his usual work but is still a masterpiece.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOA2Is6Lh-I

Radiohead - Pablo Honey
Great band and great album. Only beaten by The Bends and OK, Computer in terms of greatnes.

Kool Keith - Black Elvis/Lost in Space
Well. It's Kool Keith. If you like Kool Keith you like Black Elvis and if you don't know if you like Kool Keith you should find out if you do. One of the most underrated 90s rappers.

At The Drive-In - In•ter a•li•a
Got some bad critic ratings but it's a good album.

Quick heads up for tomorrow:

The Ketzerfetzer is slowly getting back into the radio game again, so we will have a spontaneous stream of Tool's debut album Undertow.
Broadcast starts at 1700 UTC, with the main programme at about 1715.

I will try to stream more frequently again, but I am slowly starting to run out of ideas for topics.

On this Sunday, the 23.01.2022 at 18:00 UTC we will do something more alternative.
Because how can you praise the lord better than with a band who has lyrics like "And god bless you all, for the song you sang us"? That is uplifting and touches the heart. Therefore we will listen to the sounds of the Deftones, namely their records Around the Fur, Deftones and Gore.
As always there will be a bit of uplifting music, with the main programme starting at around 18:15 UTC.

Due to an acute case of nostalgia, there will be stuff from the Ketzerfetzer's youth, right on this sunday, the 30.01.2022 at 18:00 UTC.
As a teenager he lived through the peak of Nu Metal and even today, there are some bands he still enjoys from time to time. Back then one band was often to be found on different film and videogame soundtracks - I am talking about Static-X. Therefore, we will listen to the classic records Shadow Zone and Start A War and reminisce about peekaboo thongs, ricer cars and how you could paint your nails with black permanent marker and wear your hair like a hedgehog and still be considered cool.
As always there will be a bit of uplifting music, with the main programme starting at around 18:15 UTC.

Because of an untranslatable olde KC meme (hopefully) by god's grace happening to the Ketzerfetzer's ISP there will be another regular show on Sunday, the 13.02.2022 at 18:00 UTC.
This time there will be some more classical stuff again, because we will go back to when our parents were still young. Therefore, we will listen to Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart and afterwards to Over-Nite Sensation by **Frank Zappa*. On second thought, the Ketzerfetzer's parents wouldn't have listened to that anyway, because it's too weird.

Nothing brings one closer to god than living a pious life and prayer, but just as the Lord has given us a sky, we should honor it. This is why this Sunday, the 20.02.2022 at 18:00 UTC, things will get a bit more spaced up. For this purpose, we want to listen to the cosmic sounds of Yuri Gagarin (the Swedes, not the german electro project of a similar name) with their self-titled debut album, then continue with more space rock by Zombi and their release Surface To Air and finally close the evening with The Race For Space by Public Service Broadcasting. The Ketzerfetzer owns that one on a disc and because he likes the "flipping" cover so much, he has to post both sides here.

Just kidding!

Speaking seriously, I want to point out that this episode of the show won't be about current political events (only a bit), more like about history, culture and the country in general. Also I hope that by Saturday butchery there won't start. For obvious reasons, but in addition to them because otherwise it will be hard not to be too serious about the topic.

FYI: I contacted Ernstadmin for a timeslot to attempt to enable HTTPS for the radio. Since I will switch the port of the radio from 8000 to 80 which would break the front page integration of EC I came up with the following plan:

1. choose a good timeslot (sunday morning or noon)
2. disable front page integration
3. switch the ports and fix all connected stuff (cronjobs and whatever)
4. implement the certbot stuff
5. don't fuck up in the process
6. actually fuck up a lot
7. rollback
8. read about all the important stuff I should have known in advance
9. try again another sunday
10. be successful maybe
11. ask Ernstadmin to turn on frontpage integration
12. notify everyone to update their streaming connection
13. 3 months later: notice that the automatic renewal process isn't set up properly and cause a downtime
14. be the laughingstock of EC for that reason

That's the plan. I'll notify you when I know when it will happen. I suggest not to plan a streaming festival on the sunday in question.

On sunday noon I will try to implement SSL for the radio. Due to how the SSL infrastructure works it is desireable to switch the radio from port 8000 to port 80 in the progress.

This means all streamers will need to update their streaming configuration from radio.ernstchan.xyz:8000 to radio.ernstchan.xyz:80

The statistics page will switch from Port 80 to 8000. If someone uses the RSS feed he'll also have so switch from Port 80 to 8000. After the port switch I'll try to implement the SSL stuff, so there probably will be at least a few server restarts even after the switch is done. It is recommended to not start any streams from sunday morning until the all-clear-message is delivered.

It is done, all changes have been implemented and no meltdown has been detected yet. The radio now has SSL support enabled and is cleared for operation. I noticed that not all clients support SSL. My old butt version didn't, the current one (0.1.33) does. I don't know about mixxx, my old version doesn't support it. In order to prevent anyone from being locked out from the radio I configured the following:

WITHOUT SSL: radio.ernstchan.xyz Port 80
WITH SSL: radio.ernstchan.xyz Port 443

Icecast won't redirect either port here, so the protocol has to match. Please note that SSL has only been enabled for Icecast and not for the Apache server which delivers the statistics pages. Maybe I can fix this in the future, but since the target formats and certificate locations for Icecast and Apache are not the same this will be a task for another day!

Ladies and gentlemen,

today's winner is the album "Kool Keith & Kutmasta Kurt - Diesel Truckers".
Despite the current increase in fuel prices, we are complying with the wishes of the audience and are playing this album.

Since there will be a special pre-stream for this album, as announced in the past, we at the Weekly Album Stream have decided to make the announcement a little earlier so that everyone can get to their seat early.
Later more.

As always, next week's survey can be found here:
https://poll.fm/11072466

The management level let it be known that new albums for the survey are currently being debated. The first results will probably be available as early as next week.

As usual, the stream starts at 6 p.m. CET
The pre-stream goes on the air at around 5 p.m. CET

In today's pre-stream we will be listening to the following EPs:

Retro God & Kutmasta Kurt - Vintage Fresh
Retro God & KutMasta Kurt - RetroMastas

This is a collaboration between the German rapper Retrogott (aka Kurt Hustle) and the American producer KutMasta Kurt.
There are also numerous performances by other German and US rappers. Great thing.

We're starting with Vintage Fresh because that's just not as good and our stats department expects the audience to increase as the pre-stream progresses.

Shortly before the start there will be a short reminder.

Ernsts vision was blurry, this likely was the consequence of the long cryogenic sleep he went through. He had never thought that he would end up like that, but when he heard his butt cancer couldn't be treated in the present, he chose to become a human popsicle until he could be cured in the future. Fortunately he didn't miss the bitcoin train, so money wasn't a problem. "Welcome to the future" a tall man with slightly futuristic clothing greeted him. "How are you feeling?". "Could be worse I guess, how long did I sleep?" - "According to our files: 83 years" - "Oh, is Ernstchan still alive today?" Ernst asked. "Alive and well", the man replied, "and since it's acquisition by reddit in 2063 poster numbers have doubled". Not sure what to make of this Ernst tried to get up, and it was then he noticed he was still naked. "Umm, do you have some clothes for me?" Ernst muttered. "Of course", the man answered. "Just walk up to the outlet in the wall right over there and ask for clothes", and they will be delivered. Ernst looked arond and noticed some kind of outlet of a duct in the wall, which seemed to be connected to some kind of electronic interface. Ernst walked over to the wall and said "Clothes, please". From the outlet a voice which sounded so clean that Ernst was sure it belonged to an AI responded "Operation in progress, welcome Ernst.", and a few seconds and some cranky noises later a full stack of clothes was delivered to the outlet. Ernst put on the clothes and was surprised that they not only were comfy (and slightly futuristic looking) but also a perfect fit. "How come those clothes feel like they have been tailored for me?" Ernst asked. "Easy," said the tall man, "that is because they are. When you asked for clothes the AI connected to the electronic health implant in your neck, scanned your physical attributes and provided the optimal clothing for you, not only in size, but also according to todays weather forecast" - "Wow, that's impressive," Ernst said, "that sounds really convenient" - "It is," answered the man "and it's more than that: Since you won't accidently walk outside underdressed, people are less likely to catch a cold these days, which decreased sick days at work by 8%. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a notable relief for the health care system". Ernst nodded in agreement, and asked the man that since many things seem to have changed from Ernsts time if he can show him how the future works." - "Sure," the man said, and they went outside for a stroll.

Ernst immediatly started to look out for hoverboards, when he was interrupted by his growling stomach. "It seems the cryo sleep left me hungry" Ernst said, to which the man replied that they should grab some food. So they sat down at a table of what seemed to be some kind of street cafe. After a few minutes Ernst was wondering what he should order and why there seemed to be no waiters willing to even take their order, but another few minutes later he was even more surprised when a waiter brought them two meals without them having even placed an order. "Wait, how did that work?" Ernst asked, "Did you order in advance?" - "No, not really, the man elaborated, "you remember the implant? When we sat down it calculated the optimal meal for you based on your nutrition levels and body fat, and also communicated that to the cooks." Ernst tried the meal, and it indeed tasted delicious. He also noticed his portion was notably larger than the one the man got. "Is that also because the implant?" Ernst deduced. "Yes," answered the man, "since your blood sugar is lower than mine, our implants calculated the optimal energy intake for both of us, and adjusted the meal size. This reduces waste of food and overeating, thus preventing future medical issues." Ernst pondered for a moment, and then asked the waiter "I'd like to have a chocolate ice for dessert".

Warning: That will be a one point penalty for intentionally overeating. Proceed? a voice said. "What was that?" Ernst asked? "Well, I haven't told you yet, but we have a social credit system in place which penalizes risky or antisocial behaviour". Ernst inquired "What does that mean?", and the man elaborated that any time you do something that is considered harmful to the ones around you you will be penalized according to the severity of your transgression. Something minor like overeating is only one point, and so is dressing inadequately, like if you had rejected the clothes that were chosen for you for something that didn't fit the weather. Smoking or drinking alcohol for example is 3 points, a crime like stealing is 20 points, and violent assault is 40. You start out with the maximum of 100 points, and you get 5 points added every month, so basically you can overeat 5 times a month without having negative effects. Or you can overeat two times and drink alcohol once, and you still will be at maximum score. There are also seperate scores for health, social behavior and others." - "How is it harmful to others if I eat too much?" wondered Ernst. "Well, in the long run it is, because you might become sick in the future, and the health care system which is funded by everybody would have to pay the bills." "That sounds pretty strict," noted Ernst, "and what will happen if I get penalized?" - "Nothing," replied the man, "as long as your overall score doesn't drop below 90. For example if your health score drops below 90, you will get less health benefits and you will have to pay parts of your doctor bills by yourself, the amount depending on how much below 90 you are."

"But isn't that inhumane? What if people have a low score and can't afford the bill?" - "Then they don't get treated, obviuosly." Ernst was shook: "So you just let them die?" - "Yes.", the man said, with an expression on his face of a man that listens to the same arguments for the 100th time - "But how can a civilized society just let people die?" - "Good question. I have another one: How can a civilized member of society intentionally deteriorate his health and expect the other members to pay for it? Remember that there is no such thing as the system or the state without the people who pay for it with their taxes, so intentionally increasing your likelyhood to need benefits is similar to stealing from people. Just because there's an abstraction layer added between the giver and the taker that doesn't mean it's somehow justified. This system helps that the money the people are forced to pay will reach the people who actually need it because they couldn't have prevented what happened to them, and not to those who embraced their misery with open eyes." - "But don't you feel that your freedom is restricted with so many things that you have to pay attention to?" Ernst wondered. "Not at all," the man replied quickly, "the whole point of this system is to gain freedom. You gain freedom from the never ending flurry of poor decision making of everyone else, because you only have to take responsibility for your own actions. And since our cybernetic implants help us understand our own needs better, we can make the best decisions for ourselves, so we're getting close to optimal freedom. From the knowledge of those best decisions, the obligation to take them comes automatically."

Ernst finished his meal and the two men walked back. On the way to his provisional appartment Ernst thought that the best way to get rid of all those unsettling thoughts would be masturbating to some fine future porn. Luckily for him his implant reminded him that he only has 2 hours of porn watching left for this week.

Incoming messy shitpost:

I don't think the nitpicks about the methods of point accumulation and such is relevant to the idea really. I think anyone who's ever given a thought to how the systems in China already work can see some value with implementing something like that to where one lives. However, like the writer said that we're already being scored on our actions on many fronts already. Which is true, so setting up an all-encompassing social credit score make very little sense and wouldn't really create much benefit.

About putting a price on life:
>A Patient Dies After a Ransomware Attack Hits a Hospital
That's a concrete example of putting a price to a life. Not paying the ransom = death

Not the best source but this case is very much real.

The eternal debate of natural law (or devine law, human nature being deterministically set and carving out the boundaries of social structures and rules) versus positivistic law (humans setting the rules and the boundaries of rules and being able to alter and change said rules).

Endless amount of philosophers, sophists, scientists and politicians siding on the one or the other side and the really mad one trying a "third way" going in between or not at all.

Is there graspable objectivity or can we just discuss about shared intersubjectivity and and accept we just stumble around reality with our limited understanding? Since theories and models are just limited to being plain abstract constructs based on spoken or unspoken axioms (which are not proven since declared axiom), proving those models on our perception and oberservation and having to keep in mind those observations are based on our own personal subjective cognition which has to be shared with signicifant others to prove it and to test it against falsification. And have to accept it may all be null and naught tomorrow.

And like always in those debates in the end we can only agree to disagree and dig in our trench in our own world view and philisophy.

Then again, all of this written and not much spelled out and I stayed so hard in the opaque sphere, so I better just end this post listen only.

I'm gonna elaborate a bit on why I think we shouldn't implement a social point scoring system with another shitpost. No need to read this live.

I hope I don't butcher your point. I understood that the motivation to implement it would be to make it more efficient than the separate systems that are already in place.

Ok, yes, the overall system will be more efficient, but the totality of the effects will probably be negative. We would be constantly evaluating our lives through the lens of a score impact and wasting precious brain cycles on useless score-keeping instead of thinking the real effects or whatever else occupies our daily thoughts. Living under the constant judgement of an all-seeing big brother is a constant, lifelong mental tax. The systems we already have keep us in-line well enough. And of course the methods can be enhanced by a lot. Like looking at physical well-being and obesity we could try to replicate Japan. Societal change can be achieved without authoritarian measures as there are many ways of the carrot and the stick without being so obviously oppressive and leaving us plenty of room to go our own way.

The point of personal AI optimization is only a good idea if the point is to create livestock. Could very well be that it is the end of human ingenuity and progress. It's essentially removing any spontaneity and creativity guiding us through life on rails.

Having an inefficient, fractured system like we have now is a small cost in my opinion instead of propping up and maintaining a point-system that likely causes mental suppression of the entire population.

But to be honest, we've already offloaded a lot of thinking to algorithms in our daily lives already. And it will only increase as time goes on. It might even be possible that some day an all-encompassing point system would give us more freedom than the tight constraints of all the separate AI systems steering our behavior. An example could be that a person's desire for reckless driving wouldn't be possible with a separate system managed by an insurance company or the police, but in a system where it's only a part of your total score, you could make it up in other aspects and continue with your reckless lifestyle.

So far my bet is that separate systems will provide us with the most freedom.

ps. RIP to all the tables destroyed by big dicks during the making of this radio program

I was bored so i decided to make a stream this sunday. I am going to regret it but nothing can stop me now.

Stream starts sunday, April 24 at 12:00UTC. I planned in 3 hours. Could be less.

We are going to listen to music. Every song played was:

  1. produced in a German speaking country
  2. commercially successfull in Germany to the point that it had some cultural impact
There will be some good, some mediocre and a lot of horribly bad music.
If you want to look into the German soul, you have to look into the German music.

Since every good radio show needs to allow callers, i will allow callers. I don't know what we could talk about but just call.

It's efficient music.

"Trio's main principle was to remove almost all the ornamentation and polish from their songs, and to use the simplest practical structures (most of their songs were three-chord songs). For this reason, many of their songs are restricted to drums, guitar, vocals, and just one or maybe two other instruments, if any at all. Bass was used very infrequently until their later songs, and live shows often saw Remmler playing some simple pre-programmed rhythms and melodies on his small Casio VL-1 keyboard while Behrens played his drums with one hand and ate an apple with the other. Remmler used a contact microphone on his throat to achieve a different timbre to his voice on lyrics where he stepped away from the regular mic. "
